Charles Edward Owens "Woodrat" was born July 22, 1959, in Huntsville, Texas to parents, Dock and Addie (Hobbs) Owens. He peacefully returned to his heavenly home Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas at the age of sixty-three years.
Woodrat worked in logging for most of his life. He loved woodworking, watching sports but primarily the Dallas Cowboy's football games, hunting, going out to eat hamburgers at County Seat Cafe and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also, enjoyed drag racing. He was a past long time deacon of First Baptist Church of Groveton where he was also a long time member.  Woodrat loved the lord and enjoyed sharing his story with others.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Addie Owens; siblings: sister, Hazel Hambrick; sister, Linda Kay Robert; brother, James Owens; brother, Bobby Owens; brother-in-law, Charlie Bill Sullivan; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Thornton.
Mr. Owens is survived by his loving daughters: Crystle McClaugherty and husband, Justin of Portland, Texas; Sarah Owens of Groveton, Texas; Charla Leonard and husband, Dustyn of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren: Westin, Greyson, and Kaytlynn; sister, Lois Sullivan Bryan of Lufkin, Texas; brother, Donald Owens and wife, Kathy of Corrigan, Texas; brother, Randall Owens and wife, Barbara of Groveton, Texas; mother of children/ special friend, Sandra Owens of Point Blank, Texas; father-in-law, Davis Thornton of Groveton, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff at CHI St. Luke's Hospital ICU and Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas for their wonderful care during their father's stay.
Visitation for Charles Edward Owens "Woodrat" will begin Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Buford Rogers officiating and Bro. Lesly Wilkinson assisting. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.
