Charles B. Carter, age 88, of Groveton, Texas, completed his earthly journey and went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 28, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, January 3, 2014 in Cartwright Memorial Chapel of the Groveton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Woodworth and Rev. Bill Service officiating. Burial will follow the services in Bennett Cemetery in Groveton-Centerville, Texas. He will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers Ray Lee, Ron Lankford, Larry Small, George Whittlesey, Larry Fortenberry, Mike Jesse, Tom Holcolm and William Truss. Honorary Pallbearers are Dan Dominey, Tommy Pate and Daniel Yammer.
Charles was born on February 15, 1926 in Hornersville, Missouri to his parents Elmer and Elsie Carter. He graduated from his local high school and went on to college to where he was a graduate with his Bachelors of Education Degree. He served in the United States Navy and went to battle during World War II. He later worked as a control panel operator and retired from the Soltex Company. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Groveton and very seldom were the doors of the Church not open without him in attendance. He served on many church committees and enjoyed helping with the youth as long as he was able.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Elsie Carter; son, Edward Carter in 1998 and two sisters, Phylis Ruesler and Shirley Elder. Charles leaves behind his legacy to his wife, Emily Carter, of Groveton, Texas; son, Charles B. "Chuck" Carter, Jr., of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Betty Moore and Bonnie Gross; two brothers, Edward J.R. Carter and David Carter and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
