Mr. Cecil Elmo Arnold, 91, of Groveton, Texas left this world on June 13, 2017 in Lufkin, Texas.
Cecil was born September 21, 1925 in Lovelady, Texas. He was one of nine children born to Fannie Mae and Claude Arnold. Cecil had a kind and gentle spirit. He was well liked by all who knew him. He loved animals and to be around children. He LOVED to pick with people. He was a loyal member of the local L&B where he met close friends each morning to "create" the news for the day.
Mr. Arnold had a successful career in the steel industry. He retired after 35 years of service with United Steel. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Artillery division at Ft. Bliss. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many.
Visitation for Mr. Arnold will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 graveside at Bennett Cemetery with Brother Lewis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Bennett Cemetery in Groveton-Centerville, Texas
Mr. Arnold is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Fannie Mae Arnold; his wife of 46 years, Mildred Kathryn (Boyd) Arnold. Left to celebrate his life are his longtime companion, Anna Davis of Pennington, Texas; daughter Wanda Christine Powell of Katy, Texas; son Derwin Ray Arnold and wife Wanda June of Corpus Christi, Texas; stepdaughter Ginger Sue Thompson and husband James of Sebastopol, Texas; six grandchildren: Kevin Wayne Powell, Joseph Keith Powell, Kelly Ray, Cathy Jo Lopez, Mark Alan Arnold, Ricky Ray Arnold; nine great grandchildren: Richard M. Arnold, Spencer Wayne Arnold, Avery Ray Arnold, Adaly Tayor Arnold, KC Powell, Joe Traver Powell, Payton Powell, Forest Powell and Joe Noell; brother Roy H Arnold; sisters: Connie Reed, Shirley Hooper, Glenda Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
