Obituary

Benjamin "Ben" J. Abshier, age 77, of Woodlake, formerly of Sebastapol and of Ganado, Texas was born on August 21, 1936 to his parents, Cornelius C. Abshier and Ruth (Perryman) Abshier in Liberty, Texas and went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 29, 2014 at his home in Woodlake. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, July 3, 2014 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Rev. Everett McCollum and Bro. Lewis Jones officiating. Burial will take place in Abshier Cemetery in Devers, Texas at 3:00 PM. He will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers, Beau Conn, Jon Abshier, Jason Reardon, Steven Kessinger, Bobby Jones, Guy Hughes, Brandon Owens and Josh Crotts. Honorary pallbearers will be Kaden Webel, Richard Davison, Anthony Page, Matt Page and Dennis Clark.

Ben worked for numerous years in the Sheet Metal Industry. He traveled to numerous places with his job and made many friends along the way. He and his family lived in Ganado for sixteen years and it was there that he made his church home with the Ganado Baptist Church. Ben was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He belonged to the Friends from the 50's Alumni Group and when his family moved to Woodlake, he became a member of Third Thursday Men's Club in Carmona. He enjoyed cooking for his Third Thursday Group and was known as the group's main chef. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and making many memories with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius C. Abshier, Franklin Abshier, Ruth (Perryman) Abshier and Bessie (Owens) Abshier; as well as his brothers and sisters, Richard Abshier, Cornelius C. Abshier, Jr., Etta Mae Hobbs, Joyce Casey, JF "Mutt" Abshier, Nelda Sturrock and Grace Parrish. Ben leaves behind his legacy to his wife, Mary Lee Mason Abshier, of Woodlake; daughter, Vicki Kessinger, of Groveton; daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Kevin Eastepp, of Livingston; son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Pam Abshier, of Groveton; son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Julie Abshier, of Woodlake; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Ricky Webel, of Roundrock; sister, Audry Simpson, of Brenham; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
