In Loving Memory of Benjamin Dale "Benny" Abshier
June 6, 1960 – July 14, 2025
Benjamin Dale Abshier, affectionately known as "Benny," was born on June 6, 1960, in Orange, Texas, to Ben Abshier and Mary Mason Abshier. He passed away surrounded by his family on July 14, 2025, in Houston, Texas, after a courageous battle during recovery from heart surgery.
Benny loved his family deeply; they were truly his "world," especially his cherished grandchildren. A man of the land, he found immense joy in fishing, riding out to check on his beloved cattle, and working on the ranch. After more than thirty years working as a skilled mechanic, Benny continued his commitment to hard work by helping in the hay fields, assisting many local community members with their hay supply needs.
He was a proud graduate of Groveton High School, Class of 1978. Benny later gave back to his community by serving on the Groveton ISD School Board, the Piney Woods Baptist Encampment Board, and the Woodlake/Josserand Water Supply Board. A longtime and devoted member of Groveton First Baptist Church, Benny also contributed his time and care to maintaining the church's lawn and flower beds.
Benny lived his life with a servant's heart, always ready and willing to lend a hand to those in need.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin "Ben" J. Abshier, in 2014 and by his mother, Mary Lee Mason Abshier, earlier this year in 2025.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Pam Abshier of Woodlake, Texas; his children: daughter, Cindy Davison and husband, Richard, of Woodlake, Texas, and son, Jon Abshier and wife, Breanna, of Woodlake, Texas; and his treasured grandchildren: Brianna Davison, Zachary Davison, Ayla Abshier, Karly Abshier, and Chase Abshier.
He is also survived by his siblings: sister, Vicki Kessinger of Groveton, Texas; sister, Susie Eastepp and husband, Kevin, of Livingston, Texas; brother, Frank Abshier and wife, Julie, of Woodlake, Texas; sister, Kimberly Webel and husband, Ricky, of Round Rock, Texas; and adopted sister, Poala Mazzaferro Gilmet Kratz of Brazil. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends also survive him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Groveton First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Groveton First Baptist Church, with Bro. Matt Sharrock officiating.
Interment will follow at Sumpter Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.
