Our dearest Mother, Sister, and Aunt Barbara, passed away on January 20, 2024, in Huntsville, Texas.
Barbara was born on August 12, 1934, to Stanley John Gorney and Mary Margaret Rawls Gorney in Houston, Texas.
Her father, Stanley Gorney; mother, Mary Margaret Gorney; husband of thirty plus years, Paul Dawson, Jr.; son, Sammy Marett; brother, Stanley Gorney, Jr.; sister-in-law, Judy Gorney, preceded Mrs. Dawson in death.
Mrs. Dawson is survived by her children: son, Stanley Marett of St. Louis, MO; son, Shane Marett and wife, Michele of Spring, TX; son, Shawn Dawson of Glendale, TX; grandchildren: Chastity Marett Dilday, Shane Marett, Jr., Danuel Marett, Sr., Blake Marett, Ashlyn Marett, Jonathan Ramirez, Jason Marett; daughter-in-law, Columba Garcia; sister-in-law, Sandy Swedlow; nieces: Belinda Johns, Melinda Shelps, Tonya Powell, and Tammy Mullins; nephews: Mark Bethea, Pat Bethea, and Larry Johns; and a host of other relatives and friends, also survive.
Barbara lived the majority of her life in Houston, Texas before moving to Glendale, Texas. She attended Regan High School where she had known her childhood friend Paul Dawson, Jr. Later in life they were married in March of 1969. She was also one of the four original founders of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Junior Mounted Posse. She was also a member of the Glendale Methodist Church.
Taking care of her family was her number one priority. Barbara loved to cook and was always known for her preplanning her next meal to prepare. She also loved to travel, and she always enjoyed going on camping trips with her family.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Groveton Funeral Home in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Glendale Methodist Church on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Barbara Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery, Glendale, Texas.
The family will have a reception in the Family Life Center at Glendale Methodist Church following services.
