Audrey Stringer
Mcdonald
May 19, 1918 — Sep 14, 2017
Houston
Audrey Stringer McDonald, 99, of Houston, formerly of Groveton, Texas passed away peacefully on September 14, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the First Baptist Church in Groveton, Texas with Brother Lewis Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.
Audrey was born to Viola (Collins) and Ben Ellis Stringer on May 19, 1918 in Angelina County, Texas. Her parents passed away when she was at the age of five months and was raised by her maternal grandmother. She was a graduate of Groveton High School Class of 1936 and went on to attend Modern Beauty College of Houston where she later graduated the Class of 1938. She came back to Groveton and worked as a hairdresser for numerous years.
Mrs. McDonald was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Groveton, Texas and was extremely active within the church until her health would no longer allow. She loved God, her church, her family and her friends with her whole being. She also loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. Later in years while Audrey was at the nursing home she would always ask to go home. Now she is truly Home with Christ and her loved ones as well as her friends that have gone on before her.
She is survived by her granddaughter: Cne' McDonald; special cousins: Leroy Lott and wife Billie, David Lott and wife Dorothy, Jesse Lott, Z.J. Collins, Marilyne Dworsky and husband Jay; special nephew: Clovie Chunn and many other much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins who all had a special place in her heart.
Mrs. McDonald is preceded in death by her husband: Luther Guy "Mac" McDonald; her two sons: Gary and Randy McDonald; her parents: Ellis and Viola Stringer; her sisters: Lavonia Stringer and Nola Chunn; brother: Therman Stringer; special aunts: Virgie Hutchins and Savannah Lott; special cousins: Juanice Thompson, Melba Hall and Ray Collins.
A special thank you to her pastor, Brother Lewis Jones, whom Audrey respected and loved very much. He has been there for Mrs. McDonald through the deaths of her family and has been a constant example of a true Christian, pastor and Shepherd for his sheep.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. McDonald wished that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Groveton or to the charity of your choice.
