Allie Hughes Arnold, age 92 of Pennington, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 9, 2014, in Fort Worth. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 12, at Pennington Baptist Church with interment to follow in Pennington Cemetery. Bro. Bud McGee will officiate the services. She will be escorted to her final resting place by her pallbearers, Richard Arnold, Tyler Frost, Keith Krenek, Gary Magee, Rob Wiggins and John Reynolds. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 7:30 pm, Monday, August 11, at Groveton Funeral Home, Groveton, Texas.

Allie was born January 26, 1922 in Pennington to Geneva and Dee Hughes, the first of four daughters. Allie graduated from Pennington High School. At the age of twenty three, she married the love of her life, Hugh M. Arnold, on March 22, 1945. They started a happy life together first in Houston, then moved to their hometown of Pennington in 1953. They raised three children, Hugh Jr., Charles and Linda in the original Arnold family home built in 1900. Hugh and Allie remained devoted to each other for 47 years until Hugh passed away in 1992.

Allie worked as a loyal secretary for several years at McDonald's Chevrolet in Groveton, but the job she loved the most was secretary to the Groveton High School Principal. She "adopted" the students as her own and if one of her favorites came to the principal's office due to misbehavior, she was their biggest advocate. Allie and her other three sisters, Kittie, Cora, and Mary were taught at an early age how to cook from their mother, Geneva. All four are well known for their cooking expertise, and passed this love down to their children. Allie also enjoyed gardening, and she stayed current on the news and politics. She loved her church and was devoted to the Lord. Several years ago, Pennington was in danger of losing the post office. She started a phone survey, organized a petition, and was instrumental in keeping the post office alive. Allie had an extremely close bond to her three sisters, Kittie, Cora, and Mary. The four were inseparable, as only sister's experience.

The family gives tremendous thanks and appreciation to Castle Rock Assisted Living in Arlington, Texas for the wonderful, loving care that the nurses and staff gave Allie for four and a half years. Also, thanks to Always Better Care Hospice of Sherman who assisted in Allie's care in her final days.

Geneva and Dee Hughes; son, Hugh M. Arnold, Jr.; sisters, Julian (Kittie)
Magee and Cora Troutman; grandson, Chris Arnold; sister-in-law, Cleo
Brannen; brothers-in-law, Fred Magee, Calvin Brannen, E.C. Troutman, and Bill
Holmes, Sr.; nephew, Leslie Holmes.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda F. Arnold, of Arlington; son, Charles H. Arnold, of Katy; sister, Mary Holmes, of Pennington; grandchildren, Teresa Krenek, of Austonio, Richard Arnold, of Denver, Co., and Kelly Arnold, of Lovelady; great grandchildren, Tyler Frost, Ashley Frost, and Lauren Frost; nieces, Sue Taylor, Judy Gonzalez, and Deidra Holmes; nephews, Bill Holmes, Jr. and Galen Holmes; three great nieces and eight great nephews; numerous other relatives and friends.
