Funeral services for Alberta "Bertie" Bixler, age 81, of Broaddus, Texas formerly of Groveton, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2015 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas with Pastor Terry Hickman officiating and Bro. Jason Perry assisting the services. Interment will follow in Bennett Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas.

Mrs. Bixler was born March 7, 1934 at her home in Ten Mile, Louisiana and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in Hemphill, Texas. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Simon and Dora Maricle; her husband, Larry David Bixler; son, Tony Steagall; granddaughter, Regena Dyer Berry; sister, Olive Maricle; and brothers, Ransom and Buddy Maricle. Bertie loved her family and enjoyed being able to spend as much time with them as she could. She enjoyed going shopping and spending money on her grandchildren. She loved to spoil her family as much as she could. Bertie also enjoyed embroidery and quilting. She had a special love for being outdoors and observing all that Mother Nature could provide; especially purple flowers and her knock out roses. She really liked to go fishing and going out to the beach. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Surviving family members that will cherish her memories are her son, Glen Dyer and wife, Karen Townsley Dyer; daughter, Jean Hickman and husband, Kyle Hickman, son, Hardy Ray Dyer and wife, Judy Dyer; son, Wade Dyer and wife, Christina Dyer; sister, Gertrude Salyer; grandchildren, Stephine King and husband Josh, Crystal Harper and husband, Jonathan, Andrea Wilson and husband, Justin, Jennifer Verhalen and husband, Jeremy "Biscuit" Verhalen, Samantha Dyer, Stephen Dyer, Jason Dyer, Ashley Dyer, Taylor Dyer; Melinda Sowell; great grandchildren, Carlee and Cydnee Herrington, Toby Dyer, Laynee Wilson, Emily and Christian Harper, Jeremy and Hannah Berry, Zachary, Tristan and Ryder Verhalen, Miranda Dyer, Madison Sipe and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, also survive.
