Addie Mae Hobbs Owens, age 94 of Groveton, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 11, 2014, in Groveton. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 13, in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Buford Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 12, at Groveton Funeral Home, Groveton, Texas.
Addie was born May 2, 1920 in Polk County to Andrew and Martha Hobbs. She grew up in Trinity County and met her late husband, Dock Owens. They were very close in age and enjoyed going and doing a lot of the same activities. Addie loved to garden and cook. She always over cooked and had plenty to feed her family and her guests. Addie also had a love for children and was known for her babysitting skills. She enjoyed spending time with all of the neighborhood youth and it was shown by all of the smiles and laughter that filled the streets. In her down time she had a love for talking on the telephone to all of her friends.
Addie was preceded in death by her husband, Dock Owens; parents, Andrew and Martha Hobbs; son, Bobby Owens; daughter, Linda Kay Robert; three brothers; four sisters; granddaughter, Cathy Oliver; great grandson, David Mitchamore; and son-in-law, Bill Sullivan.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children; son, James Owens, of Houston, daughter, Lois Sullivan, of Groveton, daughter, Hazel Hambrick, of Groveton, son, Randall Owens and wife, Barbara Owens, of Groveton, son, Donald Wayne Owens and wife, Kathy Joe Owens, of Corrigan, son, Charles Owens and wife, Sandra Owens, of Groveton; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; sister, Rose Walker, of Lufkin; special niece, Alice Tubbs, of Groveton and a host of other relatives and friends.
